FESTIVAL OFFERS CULTURE AND GASTRONOMY FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Details have been revealed for the 18th edition of the Festival Internacional de Jávea which is to take place over the last weekend of June. Located as always in Avenida Augusta close to the port area of town, the festival will be bringing together the tastes, sounds and experiences of 19 countries for a very genuine celebration of multiculturalism in Jávea, a town which plays host to residents from all corners of the world. Opening on Thursday 27th June, the festival extends into the weekend to finish on the evening of Saturday 29th June and offers visitors the chance to experience regional dishes and culture.
The festival will feature stands from 22 different areas organised by residents of Jávea. They include those representating the countries of Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Colombia, Ecuador, England, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Switzerland, Venezuela, Uruguay along with this year's new addittions from Madagascar and Ukraine. There will also be stands representing Spain, the region of Andalusia and, of course, the municipality of Jávea as well as attractions such as tastings created by chefs from the Asociación de Restauradores de Xàbia (ARX).
As always, the three evenings of the festival will be enlightened by performances on the stage as well as along the festival arena with exhibitions of Filipino and Peruvian dances, live music covering many forms, including soul, jazz, funk, samba and rock as well as the Brazilian drums of the batucada. Students from local dance academies will be performing on the stage whilst a children's inflatable park will be available on Saturday evening. There will also be special workshops and a demonstration of acrobatic pizza making.
Raul de Lope, president of the Asociacón Cultural Festival Internacional de Jávea which organises the annual festival, invited residents and holidaymakers alike to enjoy an event that he describes as "endearing and beautiful" and which is the fruit of the efforts and enthusiasm of distinctly different people from across the world who want to convey the best of their regions and countries. Many exhibitors invite their consuls and ambassadors to visit the festival and, by extension, the town of Jávea. The president added that in the 18 years of the festival's existence, many people have been involved, some of whom have returned to their home countries whilst others have become involved in recent years. He stressed that the festival has continued despite economic difficulties and has become an autonomous event which has proved to a great success. Vice-president Marcello Raucci added that despite talk of economic crisis, a new generation of residents are coming to Jávea which gives the association hope that the festival has a great future.
Councillor Antonio Miragall (Tourism) expressed support for the festival which offers a cultural and gastronomic journey without having to leave Jávea. To that end, local products are also being promoted through the GastroXàbia initiative. Mayor José Chulvi highlighted the importance of the event which has been fostering relationships between residents of different backgrounds for 18 years, promoting better integration. He added that the festival has been made possible by people who spend hours of their time to organise it, using their enthusiasm and desire to make each festival bigger and better. And for this, he said that the council would always support it.
