20th April 2012
The "Cofradia" or Brotherhood of Jesús Nazareno presented the programme of events for the fiestas in honour of the Nazareno in Javea, which combines spiritual devotion, music, running of the bulls and theatres.
The events begin this weekend with Musical-Poetry Recital "Amb un parell de sabates" by musicians Marta Espinós, Tere Erades, Silvia Ferrer y Héctor Péris on Sunday at 7.30 pm in the Conservatory.
By next Friday, 27 April, the festive atmosphere will take over the streets with the "bous al carrer" (or running of the bulls) that return to the Placeta del Convent after several years of absence, something long claimed by the townspeople. So the entrance of the bulls and heifers through Calle Dr. Borrull, followed by the general release of the heifers in the Placeta del Convent y Ronda Colon, return once again. There will be Running with the Bulls on Friday afternoon and evening; on Saturday morning, afternoon, and evening; and the last two runnings on Sunday morning and afternoon.
Also on Friday at 10.00 pm, the Grup de Danses Portitxoll will give a performance in the plaza Constitución (where a tent will be set up for all the activities), while on Saturday at 12.30 am there will be Open-Air Disco organised by the Quintà 2012 "LA TRIKFULKA" in the plaza Constitución. Sunday's activities start with a Pilota Valenciana match at 10.00 am in calle Sort Maria Gallart and a Raspall match at 11.30 am in the Trinquet. At 1.00 am, after the heifers, there will be a community lunch for all the neighbours in the Church Square organised by the Asociación de Vecinos del Centre Històric de Xàbia, and at 10.00 pm plaza Constitución there will be an open-air theatre "Si jo fora ric" performed by the Grup de Teatre Tot Rist de Duanes.
On Monday 30 April, also in the Plaza de la Constitución, there will be an open-air dance with live music by the Grupo Bradmis starting at 10.00 pm, with sweet cakes and mistela wine.
Tuesday 1 May is the day dedicated to children, that begins at 9.00 am with the tradition wake-up parade through the streets of the old town ending in the Plaza de la Constitución, where there will be a lunch and then the traditional "Parque Infantil" with cart rides with the CAE Tiraset and a gymkana organized by the Red Cross.
At 9.00 pm, there will be a musical parade to visit all the decorated flower crosses installed around the town which pay homage to the Nazareno, followed at 10.30 pm by the "Casino Jalouse", a a musical theatre performed by La Romántica del Saladar and the Escola de Teatre del Pedreguer.
Offering
On Wednesday 2 May 2, the flower offering to Jesus Nazareno begins at 8.00 pm, marking the end of the Triduum, which is dedicated this year to the memory of the reverend Joaquin Sendra, Juan Esteve and Jose Soler.
On the same day at 10.00 pm in the Plaza de la Constitución, there will be a nostalgia-themed celebration entitled "Remembering the open-air fiestas of the past in Javea" which will combine music with the "sainete" (or farce) "Soldats i criats" performed by the Grup de teatre Montgó de Xàbia.
May 3rd is the big great day of the religious celebration, starting with a bell ringing and a wake- parade with the Charanga brass band. At 12.00 pm there will be a solemn Mass in San Bartolomé church performed by the Orfeón de Xàbia with diplomas presented to the "Mayorales" of 2012: Antonio Buigues Buigues, Juan Bautista Sapena Crespo, Javier Bas Cholbi, Juan Gregorio Caselles Catalá, Jaime Sapena Costa, José Torres Devesa, Miguel Sapena Sala, Martín Mengual Grimalt, Lorenzo Castell Costa y José Vives Torres. This will be followed by a mascletà in Avenida Palmela.
The festivities will come to an end with a Mass at 7.00 pm and the solemn procession of Rise of the image of the Nazareno to the chapel of Calvario, where the evening will end with a firework display.
